  5th - 7th April  2010 ~ Venture Unit Survival Camp

We were all eagerly waiting for a new experience since it was something that was never done before.

It all started on Monday morning. We all met at our H.Q. with our haversacks packed and ready to face this challenge. Our plan was to search and look for food!  Every single person, despite their age had the same amount of food packed in an army pack.  It was time, and we lead our way to Cirkewwa to catch the Comino ferry.  Our trip was a hard one due to rough seas. The Unit arrived at Comino and the adventure started....

5th June 2009 ~ South District Venture BBQ

This activity was a BBQ, an opportunity to socialize, whose aim was to create a breaking the ice environment between the various venture sections of the south district groups. The activity was organized by the Cospicua venture unit and was held in Marsascala. The groups that attended the activity were those of Xgħajra and Zabbar.

The activity started with a pleasant swim, then all the BBQ’s were lit and we all enjoyed  the smell of burning sausages and the environment of people telling stories and socializing with the bbq light in the background. It seemed just like a camp fire, without the fire though! The activity was a success and we wish and hope to join the other venture sections in many other joint activities in the future. It was a pity that only 3 units joined, I guess the other units lost a great experience!

  27th February - 1st March 2009 ~ Venture Unit Weekend Camp Report

A back to basic camp was organized by the Venture Unit as part of their training.  The camp was based on a three day and a two night camp at ‘Wied Babu’.  This camp was full of activities such as

Day 1 - At 5.00 pm we met at the fort.  We left for Wied Babu by transport and arrived there at 5.30pm.  The first thing we did was to pitch up the tents. When everything was settled, some members of the venture unit, started to search for logs and tree branches for the backwoods fire. But, we had a problem when it came to fire because the branches and logs were all wet with humidity so we could not light it.  Instead of the backwoods fire, we used our gas stoves and we still cooked our food successfully.

Day 2 -As soon as we woke up, we went to search for dry tree branches to use them later in the day.  We used the logs to give a better look to our campsite and created a bench where to sit, a flag pole a mug tree and a swing tied to a tree. Then, we cooked something for lunch and went to explore the beautiful scenery of the valley.  We rock climbed as an activity.  After, we led our way back to the campsite, cooked our dinner on an open fire and discussed the events of the day around a campfire while eating marshmallows

Day 3- On our final day, we pitched down the tents and cleaned the campsite to leave it better than it was found.  We had breakfast and played a baseball game.  We packed everything and waited until 2.00pm for the transport to pick us up.

This was a great camp with fine weather and lovely memories.

  Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th January 2009 ~ Venture Unit Expedition Report

From the 2nd till the 4th of January we had a challenge; it was my first challenge with the Unit and my first expedition in Gozo. It was a 3 day and 2 night’s journey with a team of 10 members.

On our first day we started from Imgarr to Marsalforn.  This was not very difficult as we were still fresh.  We camped at Marsalforn, rested and started cooking.  Our second day started with a good breakfast and a walk from Marsalforn to Kercem.  There we pitched our camps at Wied Il-Lunzjata.  We were very tired on this day as our walk was uphill to Zebbug.  This was quite difficult but it was great and challenging. The last day our crew decreased to 7 members, because one of the members had a high fever and had to be dismissed from the journey.  The other two members had to accompany him back home.  On our last day we walked from Kercem back to Mgarr from where we boarded the ship back to Malta.

Some places we passed trough: Mgarr, Qala, Nadur, Ramla, Marsalforn, Zebbug, Ghasri, Kercem, Victoria, Xewkija, Ghajnsielem.

Although it was a long journey it was one of the best expeditions I ever had and an experience which I shall never forget.  It was a great challenge for me but I am very glad and satisfied that I made it till the end.

  Thursday 4th November 2008 ~ Community Work

On the 4th November, members from Xgħajra Venture Unit and Xgħajra Troop Section took part in the European Youth Week which was held at Freedom Square Valletta. The members from the group formed part from the SEDQA stand. The activity was to do and promote mocktails for the public. Mocktails are like cocktails but the main difference between them is that mocktails are alcohol free. That night was a success night since a large number of these Mocktails were done. Surprisingly an international group was presently, and we had the opportunity to taste them this product. The result and the outcome were an excellent one.
