Group Scout Leader - Marcel Borg

"Being a member of the Scouts has made the man that I am now.  Through scouting, I have gained a myriad of skills and has exposed me to a thousand opportunities in my everyday life."

I joined Xgħajra Group as a Troop in 1995 at the age of 9.  Throughout the period in the Troop Section I was appointed as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and as a Senior Patrol Leader.

In December 2000 I was awarded the Royal Life Saving Society Medals and Crosses and served for a several time at St. John Ambulance Brigade and Rescue Unit.

In 2001 I was linked in the Venture Unit and served as a secretary, cashier and later was elected as a chairperson. During my period in the Venture Unit, I  achieved the Venture Award and in February 2006 was presented the Dolphin Award by the Chief Commissioner.  In July 2006 I was awarded the President Gold Award by the Honourable President Dr. E Fenech Adami himself.

I also travelled in the UK at Great Tower Campsite at the Lake District Windermere and together with other scouts, accomplished the Dolphin Award.  In April 2007, I attended the Queens Scout Parade & Service in Windsor Castle representing the Top Award Holders from Malta, were there I  had the opportunity to meet Her Majesty the Queen.

Cub Scout Leader (Akela) - Janice Borg Preca

"Since I had no scouting background at all, I learnt a lot along the way from all members of the group; young and old."

I first experienced the idea of scouting during the 2017 Summer Camp. On realising what a wonderful family Xghajra Scout Group is, I decided that I should give Leadership a shot.  This has been unarguably one of the best decisions of my life.  Since then, I have realised what a joy and blessing it is to be around children and teens; and it has been a very fruitful learning experience, too.  Since I had no scouting background at all, I learnt a lot along the way from all members of the group; young and old.  I have since

attended a number of training courses and I am on the way of obtaining my Wood Badge in the near future, God willing.

Looking forward to many more scouting adventures with my second family; Xghajra Scout Group.

Assistant Cub Scout Leader (Bagheera) - Ann Schembri

"Scouts helped me improve my skills and confidence, make new friends and understand more other members ideas and lifestyle."

I joined the Xghajra Scout Group in 2020 as assistance to Cub leader. I showed the interest in joining after seeing the Scout Group growing since my kids had been attending Xghajra Scount group since 2014. When I was younger I use to be part of Cospicua Girl Guides but always had a wish to join a Scout Group. Scouts helped me improve my skills and confidence, make new friends and understand more other members ideas and lifestyle. It also shows me that all members are different but willing to learn & to work together for better environment.

"I did not only meet new friends but also learned a number of things, such as how important it is to take good care of the environment around us."

I joined Xgħajra scouts group back in 2010 and honestly it was one of the best decisions I've made so far.  I did not only meet new friends but also learned a number of things, such as how important it is to take good care of the environment around us. Thanks to to the group, I became more confident, ready to give a helping hand whenever needed.

I'm currently a junior beaver leader, taking care of our little ones and making sure they have an awesome experience just like mine.

I consider Xgħajra scouts group as my second family, one big loving and caring family.

Assistant Beaver Leader - Oriana Galea

'While I enjoy watching my children learn and enhance certain skills, I also am learning myself and may incorporate such skills to my everyday life'

Last September I was invited by the members of the Xgħajra scouts to join their team. Little did I know how much I grew to love my time spent with such wonderful people. I am a mother of 2 scouts and I currently help out the Beaver Section. While I enjoy watching my children learn and enhance certain skills, I also am learning myself and may incorporate such skills to my everyday life. I am so proud to be part of such a well organised and dedicated team.

'It gives me great satisfaction to see our young generation develop and flourish new skills'

I joined the Xgħajra Scout Group in 2022. It has always been my passion to work and be with young kids. It gives me great satisfaction to see our young generation develop and flourish new skills such as teamwork, self-motivation and ultimate to reach their full potential.

'I strongly embrace the values of the scouts, and encourage the young minds of our members to be creative and to feel empowered.'

I joined the Xghajra Scouts Group in 2023. I share my enthusiasm and creative energy with the beavers group. My principle to life is to try to do good wherever present. As a mother to a young boy, I discovered a profound new passion for dinosaurs, nature walks and messy activities. I enjoy going on long walks exploring nature and watching the beauty of sunsets, as a way to re-energise. I strongly embrace the values of the scouts, and encourage the young minds of our members to be creative and feel empowered.

"I first got involved in smaller projects, namely the HQ and helping out in some activities, however soon enough I got more and more interested and eventually it turns out that I made Scouts my second home!"

The truth is that I ever had the intention of joining any Scout Group before I enrolled our son early in 2018, when he was five years old. In spite of this, I always believed in Scouting in general, the extracurricular activities that it provides and the discipline that only Scouting can instill in our future adults.

I first got involved in smaller projects, namely the HQ and helping out in some activities, however soon enough I got more and more interested and eventually it turns out that I made Scouts my second home! Looking back, in these last years together we worked a lot and we achieved a lot. We managed to increase the membership, we made massive improvements in our Headquarters and organized numerous activities for our members and the general public, with very encouraging feedback.

On a personal level, I believe that even though keeping up with all the activities and constantly facing new challenges of all sorts to keep our team motivated needs time and commitment, seeing the Group growing and actively involved makes me keep going with a feeling of fulfillment.
